Blog Prompt #1: Women, Work & Justice- Student Introduction

I chose my blog handle because my friends call me ctizzle or ctaf which is kind of a combination of my first and last name, it's sort of a nick name so to speak. Justice Studies is my major and I am a senior and I graduate in December. I chose this class because I need a justice 400 level course in order to graduate. I actually had a different justice 400 level class selected but I found this class because it was more convenient with my work schedule since it's an internet course. I found women in the workplace to be a very interesting topic and I hope to learn about the struggles women have faced in the workplace. My mom was a single mother and raised me without any support and I watched her struggle but she worked hard and is now a successful working woman and a great mother who I respect greatly.

I think women, work and justice describes what kind of obstacles woman deal with in the workplace. I think justice comes into play by discussing topics such as how much women are paid compared to men in the same position and how women are treated because of their gender and how this affects their work performance. This also plays part in them moving up in their position or even applying for any type of position at all. I notice that women are often treated differently in the work place because of their gender and they aren't looked at the same as men in their same line of work. It amazes me how gender plays an important role in the workplace because we are supposed to be equal and I feel as if women are stereotyped and often down graded in the work place just because of gender. I also think that women and men get paid
differently even if they have the same job title and that doesn't seem just to me. If two people have the same qualifications then why pay them differently? I can't wait to learn about these types of issues in class this semester.
